Last Wednesday, the founder of Carolina Medical Parts, Rick Sagadin, passed away at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was 57 years old.

In 2004, Rick and Kay Sagadin founded their MR coil and repair company, Carolina Medical Parts, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Over the years it has developed into a 20,000 square-foot custom-designed test facility.

Sagadin's daughter, Katrina, and her husband, Chuck Winn, joined the company in 2005 as sales consultants and Sagadin's grandson, Kyle, started working part time at the company last year while also attending high school.

Rick and Kay previously ran a company called Technology Management Group in 1992 but it was eventually sold to Philips Healthcare in 1999.

Marshall Shannon, director of Image Technology Consulting, LLC, met Sagadin 15 years ago when he purchased his first MR part from him and since then they became good friends. "I have many fond memories of Rick both in my business and personal life," Shannon wrote to DOTmed News. "His death will leave a void that will not easily, if ever, be filled."

In addition to being a great friend, Sagadin also had an influence on Shannon's business. "I will miss him, as he was a good man who inspired what we, Image Technology, have done and he shared many insights that have made us more successful," wrote Shannon.

Phil Jacobus, DOTmed's president, also knew Sagadin and described him as an "honorable gentleman" whom he always enjoyed having a conversation with.
