Siemens Healthcare announced on Thursday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared its new DR system, called the Multix Select DR.

Siemens said it's an entry-level, floor-mounted DR system targeted toward small hospitals that might not have a big budget.

"The Multix Select DR enables smaller hospitals and imaging centers with limited budgets and square footage to dispense with the burdens of film and cramped archives and embrace the many benefits of DR," said Laurie Fisher, vice president of X-ray products at Siemens Healthcare. "With the Multix Select DR, these customers can benefit from an attractively priced, space-conserving, floor-mounted DR system capable of performing a wide range of examinations using selected features from Siemens' premium X-ray products."

The system incorporates the same technology in other Siemens' DR systems, including a flat-panel detector and the capability to do pediatric exams at a low dose with the option to remove the system's grid. In addition, special Siemens' software can give clinicians tools for better visualization as well as quality management.
