The Flower Mound, Texas-based company ProTom International Inc. announced that it has received 510(k) clearance for its Radiance 330 Proton Therapy System.

Like its other proton therapy technology, the Radiance 330 is a compact delivery system. ProTom markets the system as an affordable alternative to many of the notoriously expensive 200-plus-ton accelerators on the market today, due to its compact and modular design. The compact accelerator can be installed within an interior vault space of roughly 20' X 30'. In addition, the company said it requires up to 40 percent less radiation shielding than many other systems.

ProTom said the system's modular design accommodates a facility's preference for 3-D imaging solutions and treatment planning software through industry-standard interfaces.
