AHIMA Announces National Board of Directors Election

CHICAGO, August 4-- The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has elected Wendy Mangin, MS, RHIA, director of medical records at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN, president-elect for 2007.

Mangin, a 30 year health information management (HIM) veteran, has helped lead implementation of an electronic health record (EHR) and serves as a privacy officer for Good Samaritan. She is also responsible for the policies and procedures for the completion, maintenance and preservation of health information, as well as implementation of an electronic health record (EHR). Mangin served on the AHIMA's Board of Directors from 2003 - 2005; chaired the Association's Council on Certification and RHIA Construction Committee; and served on the AHIMA's Legislative Committee and on the Foundation of Research and Education (FORE) Board. She currently serves on AHIMA's Privacy and Security Practice Council, the Vincennes University HIM Program Advisory Council, and the Health Information Administration Program Advisory Council for Indiana University School of Informatics at IUPUI.

"Wendy was a tremendous asset to the AHIMA Board of Directors and we are pleased to have her lead the Association in 2008," said AHIMA president, Jill Callahan Dennis, JD, RHIA.

Mangin will serve as president-elect in 2007 and will assume the office of AHIMA president on January 1, 2008.

AHIMA also announced today the election of three new directors to its Board of Directors. The newly elected directors include:

* Mary Beth McCoy Haugen, MS, RHIA, Director of HIM and Information Services, Denver Health, Denver, CO
* Patricia L. Shaw, MEd, RHIA, FAHIMA, Program Director for the HIM and Technology Programs, Weber State University, Ogden, UT
* Patricia Thierry Sheridan, MBA, RHIA, President, Care Communications, Inc., Chicago, IL

AHIMA's new Board members will take office on January 1, 2007. Elected by members of the Association, AHIMA's Board of Directors members each serve a three-year term. The Board of Directors governs the Association, sets strategy and direction, and maintains fiduciary responsibility. AHIMA's key initiatives currently include promoting electronic health information management (e-HIM©); advancing clinical healthcare terminologies and classifications; building a workforce for the health information transformation; and advancing personal health records. The AHIMA Board of Directors consist of 12 elected positions--including the President, President-elect, Past President, and nine directors--and the Association's CEO.
