GLOBAL DSR sees growth in ophthalmic equipment

Brian Myrback, 34, is a self-described "young gun" in the medical equipment industry. He comes from a blue collar upbringing. His father previously ran a construction business in California.

"My father is a 35-year business owner and one thing I learned growing up is you are only as good as your last transaction," said Myrback. "I am young. I am hungry. And I work very hard, as the five-star ratings on [DOTmed.com] will attest. I work very hard to have a spotless reputation in this industry. However I do not rest on my laurels. Every transaction is treated as though it were my first."

His attitude of hard work is being applied daily at his Florida-based company where Myrback is a manufacturers' rep in that territory for five OEMs, while doing business worldwide dealing in used equipment. The name of the company, GLOBAL DSR, stands for diagnostic, surgical, and refractive, the three categories of technology in the field of ophthalmology. But more interesting is how Myrback came to focus on this specialty in the first place.

A business major who came to Florida State University in 1994, Myrback did his homework.

"I started to do research because I wanted to get into capital equipment. There are certain fields like orthopedics that use a general OR in a hospital or surgery center. As such there is various equipment you can use. Veterinary, dentistry, and ophthalmology to my knowledge are the only fields that require specialized surgery centers and equipment," he said.

A business plan was born. "The ophthalmology field allows me to narrow down my target clients and concentrate on one field and one set of doctors."

He's a family man "first and foremost," Myrback said. "Being your own boss has a lot of pros and cons. However it does give me the flexibility for the most part to create my own schedule and more importantly spend time with my family, which is extremely important to me."

Myrback is also an outdoor enthusiast, a fisherman, golfer, and diver.

"I enjoy being outdoors, Florida weather, and days at the beach with the family. Anything that pertains to being outside when it's not 114 on the heat index is what I enjoy in the little free time I do have," he said.
