RSNA Video Profile: Hologic and Women's Health

by Kathy Mahdoubi, Senior Correspondent | December 14, 2009
Hologic came to the 2009 RSNA Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting with a range of women's health wares. Watch this DOTmed News video featuring Deb Burnham, Hologic's director of education development and sales training, for a virtual demonstration of the company's newest technologies.

On view here is Hologic's Selenia Dimensions 2D digital mammography system. This technology includes some secure and time-saving features like biometric log-in and touch screen workstation. Image preview on this system takes about four seconds.

Breast tomosynthesis is regarded by many as the next wave in mammo technology. With this in mind, Hologic has designed their newest mammography systems to be turn-key upgraded to 3D when the FDA gives them the green light. Hologic spokespeople could not comment on when the FDA might be ready to clear 3D breast tomosynthesis, but DOTmed will report back as soon as news emerges on this issue.

The company also displayed the SecurView Workstation, which is currently the most popular visualization software for digital mammography images in the U.S. The newest SecurView offers multi-modality viewing, uniting ultrasound, MRI, or mammo images for complex case studies.
