Applauds boost for FDA
medical device program
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stephen J. Ubl, president and CEO of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), issued the following statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve the conference report for the Fiscal Year 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Act (H.R. 2997), which includes $315 million for the FDA's medical device program - a $35 million increase over FY 2009 levels:

"AdvaMed supports a strong and well-funded FDA, and we commend the U.S. House of Representatives for providing this significant increase to FDA's medical device program budget for FY 2010. These additional appropriations will allow the agency to continue its important mission to ensure the safety and effectiveness of medical devices and diagnostics.

"AdvaMed would like to thank Appropriations Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Ranking Member Jack Kingston (R-GA) for their leadership in moving this important measure. We encourage the Senate to follow the House's lead in approving the conference report for H.R. 2997."
