A phoroptor or refractor is a piece of medical equipment used to measure the refractive error of the eye and determine the correct prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. The phoroptor is a combination of a refractor and a phorometer, which measures the eye's refractive power. It is used to measure the patient's vision, the curvature of the cornea, and the size of the eye.
The phoroptor consists of a light source, a lens, a chin rest, and a dial that allows the user to adjust the lens power. The patient looks through the lens while the doctor adjusts the dial to determine the best prescription. The phoroptor is also used to measure the pupil size and the patient's ability to focus.
